The Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) program was created by the U.S. government to facilitate international trade and increase the global competitiveness of U.S.-based companies. Many of Brevard County's transportation hubs are part of FTZ 136, which enables qualified businesses to defer or eliminate U.S. Customs' duties on imported goods.
Encompassing more than 4,000 acres, FTZ 136 is among the largest foreign trade zones in the country. Years of dedicated planning and development by business and community leaders have created one of the world’s most comprehensive import/export resources here in Brevard County, Florida. FTZ 136 general-purpose sites include: Port Canaveral, Melbourne International Airport, Space Coast Regional Airport, Spaceport Commerce Park and Tate Industrial Park.
Potential benefits of a FTZ include:
- No Duty on Domestic Content or Value Added
- Duty-Free Storage
- No Duty on Re-Exports and Sales to the U.S. Military or NASA
- Relief From Inverted Tariffs
- No Duty on Waste and Scrap
- No Duty on Rejected or Defective Parts
- Reduced Processing Time and Fees
- Reduced Transit Time
