County Government

The Brevard County Government serves its over 500,000 residents by preserving the superior quality of life found on Florida’s Space Coast. The Home Rule Charter, granted by the Constitution of Florida, allows Brevard County to establish its own local laws and structure its government to be more responsive to the needs of the community.

A five-member County Commission serves as the legislative and governing body of Brevard by establishing laws and policies. Each County Commissioner is elected by his or her district to serve a four-year term. The Board of County Commissioners is responsible for appointing a County Manager to head the executive branch and a County Attorney to provide legal services. To further serve the community, residents elect the Sheriff, Property Appraiser, Tax Collector, Clerk of the Courts, and Supervisor of Elections.

Brevard County residents have public access to event calendars, meeting minutes, ordinances, resolutions, and budget documents on the Brevard County Government’s Official Website.
